Throughout the year, I get numerous requests from students for letters of recommendation. I take letter writing very seriously. However, before I consent to write a letter, a student needs to understand the following:
I) Guidelines for Writing the Letter
I will typically NOT be able to write a letter of recommendation without a 2-3 week notification.
My letters of recommendation are private. Under no circumstances, do I release my letters directly to students. Additionally, I will not write a letter of recommendation if you have not waived your right to see it.
Please remember that I only wish to write you the best letter of recommendation possible. Thus, I will not typically write you a letter of recommendation if you have received a C or lower in my class.
II) What I Need to Write a Letter: In order for me to write the best recommendation possible, I need to have the following information on you.
A draft of your essay - this essay should state WHY you are applying to your program or scholarship
An updated resume/vita
A file with the list of schools that you are applying towards. This file can either be a word, excel or google file. In the file you should list
Deadlines should be attached to each school.
Please be sure to list WHY this particular school
Please be sure to list any SPECIFIC people you wish to work with at these schools
Please also forward me any links to the recommendation - and make sure that they are properly filled out with my name, position, etc.
III) Required Information that I Need to Write A Letter: Please answer questions below and send them to me either as an email or shared as a google doc. Remember to also send me your vita and a draf of your essay when you send me the information below.
What are the deadlines for your programs? What is the earliest deadline? (Please remember that I typically need 2-3weeks)
What specific program/scholarship are you applying to? (e.g Masters/PsyD, in Clinical or Counseling, etc)
When did you graduate from Kenyon?

Please specify if there anything in particular that you would like me to highlight in your letter (e.g., any particular accomplishments or experience that I should be aware of, any particular assignment you did for me that you feel highlights your accomplishments).
