India.
India is perhaps one of my most favorite places in the world. I first went there right after college and worked as a "governess" where my job was to acculturate the children under my care into American ways. In retrospective, this experience was foolishly and hopelessly colonial task. It was compounded by the fact that as a minority in the U.S. I had never really considered my self truly American. It was an experience full of misunderstandings, many tears, and frustration, And yet, despite all of these difficulties, India changed me in a profound way and was one of the primary reasons I got interested in cross cultural psychology.
Many years later I was ecstatic to return as part of the 2010 Semester at Sea voyage. The following are photos of my last visit there were we visited with the RIDE program in India. I only hope one day to return again to India...and again...and again.
